2010 Watch: Senator George Pataki?

Well now, this is slightly above average. We’ve all heard aboot NY Congressman Pete King considering a run for the Senate. Apparently there’s another high profile New York pol who is taking it under consideration…former Governor George Pataki.

The leader of the National Republican Senatorial Committee approached former Gov. George E. Pataki this week about running for the United States Senate in 2010, according to a person who spoke to Mr. Pataki about the private meeting.

The person confirmed that Mr. Pataki met on Tuesday in New York City with Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican who leads the party’s national Senate campaign committee. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment.

The article alludes to it being for Kirsten Gillibrand’s seat, but our other senator, Chuckles Schumer, is also up for re-election in 2010. Since Sen. Cornyn has already spoken to Rep. King aboot the Gillibrand seat, I can’t imagine him talking to Pataki aboot the same one. Plus, if we really have plans to try and take down Schumer, Pataki seems like the most logical choice.

A King/Pataki duo with Rudy Giuliani running for Governor would not only re-energize a state party in desperate need for so re-energizing, it would also raise some serious coin, not just for the trio but down ticket as well.

Of course Rudy could decide not to run and throw everything up in the air. Plus, we have the wildcard on the other side known as Andrew Cuomo.

I think I’m going to enjoy 2010.
